What Causes Severe Abdominal Gas With Sudden Change In Bowel Habits?

I seem to have some problems with my digestional tract. I don t seem to be able to eat foods I used to eat. I have to totally stay away from Chinese food, (I think because of the grease) I made spaghetti tonight and that bothers me now in that I feel bloated but can t seem to rid myself of the gas. Sometimes I think milk products bother me when they never have before, (I am 59) eggs might or might not bother me. I do have anxiety and am on medication but when I get emotional I will end up with diarhea and have to take medicine for that. It seems I am either constipated or have diahrhea. I have tried to experiment with foods, sometimes they bother me, sometimes they don t. I wear protection as sometimes I may have a little bit of bowel leakage and not even realize I have had it. Strange, right?

In most cases our dietary choices could lead to excessive flatulence. Some foods that increase gas include Beans, cabbage, broccoli, raisins, lentils, prunes, apples, foods high in fructose or sorbitol, such as fruit juices.

These foods can take a long time to digest, leading to the unpleasant smell associated with flatulence.

If your diet doesn’t contain a large number of carbohydrates or sugars, and you don’t swallow excessive air, your excessive flatulence may be due to a medical condition. Potential conditions underlying flatulence range from temporary conditions to digestive problems such as inflammatory bowel diseases, gastroenteritis, diabetes or peptic ulcer.

As remedies you should: Look at your diet. If it contains a large number of carbohydrates that are difficult to digest, try to replace them. Carbohydrates that are easier to digests, such as potatoes, rice, and bananas, are good substitutes.

Also, try to eat around five to six small meals a day instead of three larger ones to help your digestive process.

Chew properly to avoid doing anything that may increase the amount of air that you swallow.

This includes making sure that you are chewing your food properly, and avoiding chewing gum or smoking. Also, drink some peppermint tea, chamomile tea and ginger.
