What Causes Semi-solid Fluid Filled Sac Near Labia Minora?

I just noticed a fluid filled sac not quite the size of a marble attached to the labia minora - - it was semi-hard. I cleaned a needle with alcohol and poked the end and squeezed and a clear liquid and blood came out. Have no idea what this is - - it only bothers me when I have to wipe

Hello,

You are having a fluid filled sac about the size of a marble at the labia minora. You poked and squeezed it. You are getting bothered when you have to wipe it every now and then. You symptoms are indicative of Bartholin cyst. You are suggested to visit ER or get physically examined by a health care worker. If the cyst is filled with pus it will have to be drained and cleaned. This procedure can be done in the OPD or a doctors clinic.

With a larger abscess, a temporary drain or packing gauze may be placed inside the healing cyst. The release of pressure leads to immediate pain relief. You will be prescribed to take antibiotics like a course of Augmentin to aid better healing and prevention of spread of infection to the surrounding skin and genital area. Sometimes, cyst infections continue to return, the doctor may recommend cyst removal by a minor surgical procedure and give painkillers (Advil / Motrin) to help you stay comfortable. Take care of your hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
