What Causes Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Male. 40 yrs old. No major medical issues. Good health, save for excess weight abdominal region. Have generalized severe itching all over body, most prominently on arms, lower legs, feet, and intermittently on scalp and genitals. Gets most intense on feet (soles, sides, top and toes) and below the knees. Comes and goes, over last month. No changes to diet. Not taking any meds, except OTC for heartburn and occasional headache (same regimen for years, though). No evident rash. Red marks occur on skin from scratching. Have small dog. House can get dusty and collect dog fur more than I d like to admit. Diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis years ago, but had been well-managed without meds and never caused itching. Concerned about causes.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is a kind of fungal infection common among people with oily skin. Nothing much to worry and most cases respond well to topical antifungals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
