What Causes Rise In The BP Level While On Ibuprofen?

I am 87 years old. Have high blood pressure and take Lisinopril. I also have osteoarthritis in my kneees. Taking ibuprofen (usually 400 mg a dose) reduces the pain and discomfort in my legs. I have noticed that my blood pressure increases significantly after medication. What''s to be done?

Some medicines can make blood pressure rise. If you have high blood pressure to begin with, it can rise to dangerous levels.

Ibuprofen is a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAIDs) and it is one of the drugs that can increase your blood pressure.
Ibuprofen is often used to relieve pain or reduce inflammation from conditions such as osteoarthritis.(like you)

NSAIDs (especially Ibuprofen )can make your body retain fluid and decrease the function of your kidneys. This may cause your blood pressure to rise even higher, putting greater stress on your heart and kidneys.

NSAIDs can also raise your risk for heart attack or stroke, especially in higher doses.

In your case i suggest to talk with your doctor about the fluctuations of your blood pressure after taking Ibuprofen and the possible solutions of this problem.
Your doctor may be able to recommend alternatives, such as using acetaminophen instead of ibuprofen.
