My husband is 68 years old, non smoker, does not drink, working as supervisor of a construction plan, never had heart problem an little overweight. Recently his blood preasure was around 146 and missed work saying not feeling good. I took him to the Eisenhower hospital, emegency. Doctors examin him and by then it went up to 180. He is on medication and sodium diet. I watch what he eats and drinks lots of water . My question is WHY HIS BLOOD PREASURE GOES UP EARLY IN THE MORNING LIKE BOUT 4AM. Thank you very much

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to HCM!
I appreciate your concern for your husband regarding the morning rise of his BP.

Normal morning BP surge is a physiological phenomenon.

Blood pressure (BP) exhibits a diurnal variation, with a decrease during sleep and a surge in the morning dynamic diurnal variation is mediated by plasma catecholamines and the direct action of sympathetic nerves supplying the heart thus resulting in the morning rise in BP.

Also associated with the morning rise in BP are the cardiovascular events.

I hope your doubts have been clarified.
Take care.
