Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have very large Tonsils. They almost touch even when I am not sick. For the last 6 weeks or so my right tonsil has given me pain when I swallow. It s not sore. It only hurts when I drink something and only for 2 or 3 sips and then it twists and doesn t hurt anymore. Do you know what could be wrong?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Tonsil is a lymphoid organ which helps to protect against infections of oropharynx region. Even though it is not sore or inflamed externally, enlarged tonsils itself speaks that it is fighting some form of inflammation happening quite often. It would be better to be removed in case it is enlarged and causing symptoms such as difficulty in swallowing or breathing. Kindly consult ENT specialist and get yourself examined clinically to take a call about its removal surgically. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
