What Causes Right Eye Dilation After Fishing In Ocean?

I took nausea medicine (patch behind the ear and Dramamine (sp?) before going deep sea fishing yesterday afternoon. Back on land, after nearly 4 hours on the ocean, a friend (who is a nurse) notice that my right eye and only my right eye was dilated. I have now had a good night sleep and upon waking up, the eye is still dilated and I am very concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read your message carefully and understood your concern.

The patch you used contains scopolamine used to prevent nausea and vomiting during your fishing time.

Scopolamine drug can dilate your pupils. Usually, it happens in both eyes but unilateral cases are also evidenced.

Often it happens in only one eye when you touch your eye with the fingers you touched the drug (patch or tablet) forgetting to wash the hands before.

It will pass after 2 days and there is nothing to worry about. Make sure you have removed the patch after finishing.

Wish you good luck and hope this was helpful for you.
