What Causes Retrosternal Chest Pain?

I am going through spasmic, retrosternal pain (pain just behind sternal bone, upper abdomen) Initially suspected heart related causes, admitted to ER but all cardiac parameters checked normal. Stayed in ER for 3 hours, EKG, chest X-ray and blood tests are clear. ER personel concluded that it is due to abdominal muscle strain. Another day today with intensifying spasms lasting only 3-4 seconds but occurring frequently. Pain level varies from 3/10 to 8/10, sometimes inducing nausia (not vomitted yet) Taking Advil and/or Tylenol to feel better but not very effective. Please advise what to do : wait for a while or see a medical professional ASAP (what kind?) Regards, Caner Yalcin
