What Causes Reoccurring Trichomonas Infection?

The physician said that I was a chronic carrier of Trich. My husband and I have been married 7 years and I ve had Trich 3 times in 7 years. The first two times my husband was negative and this last time he was positive and I ve always been positive. He fessed up twice before that he cheated but he was negative. I ve never cheated but I m always positive. This last time he was positive and I was positive and he said he hasn t cheated and I haven t cheated. This is very confusing. Can you give me a clear answer as to why this happens?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Recurrent trichomonas vaginitis may be due to re-infection from an untreated old or new partner, or relapse. Relapse most commonly is the consequence of inadequate therapy, usually non-adherence and only rarely is the result of metronidazole resistance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
