What Causes Reduction In Hemoglobin Level In A Woman With Thalassemia?

Hi doctor, I m 5 months pregnant & a low hg of 7.7. My iron studies are normal with good levels of iron & ferretin. Tibc & trasferrin saturation is also normal. I have a beta thallesemia trait & have been taking folic acid 5mg & b 12. B 12 is also at excellent levels. But my haemoglobin due to thallesemia & pregnancy keeps falling. I want to keep blood transfusion as last resort. Is there anything else I can do ? Will dexorange syrup help me ? My iron serum is on the higher side & no other defiency. Please advise

Hi,

Anemia in pregnancy can cause deleterious effects on your baby.

You have to start transfusions to keep hemoglobin level to an optimum range. Dexorange will not provide much help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
