What Causes Redness On The Tongue And Dry Mouth?

I have a red tounge that is a little sore and mouth thats dry .My mouth feels like i ate something hot .I went to a specialist , He said it was my age and the lining of my tounge thining . Gave me some nasty , stuff to rinse my mouth out with maylox lanacaine and i cant reamber the other .That didnt last to long 2 days and i was done with that couldnt eat .im 64 , have been healthy most of my life .froz schoulder . After that everything been going down hill .I was hoping you could come up with a better thing to do .My husband has me on niacin .please help if you can

As you have a dry mouth then it can cause inflammation inside mouth and soreness, redness and thinning of mucosa is all due to dry mouth.
So first of all you need to get the exact cause of Dry mouth ruled out.
Dry mouth can be due to causes like Severe dehydration, side effects of medications if you take any, salivary gland dysfunction, nerve damage supplying salivary glands, oral infections like thrush, Sjogren's Syndrome.
So an Oral Physician should be consulted so that he can rule out the exact cause..
For now you can gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic Mouthwash as it can help in relieving the symptoms..
Along with it chew sugarfree chewing gum..
Use mouth lubricants like Oralgel..
You can also suck ice pops so that it can help in reducing inflammation, redness and soreness..
