What Causes Redness Around Zostrix Application Site?

My husband used Zostrix on his shoulder for pain. His skin is very red at application site and he feels like he is on fire. We washed the area twice with soap and water then applied aloe gel to try to sooth the burning sensation. He still feels like his skin is on fire. Any suggestions.

Ayurveda Specialist 's  Response
Hi There

After going through your query I understand your concern.

I would like to tell you that Topical application of Zostrix ( Capsaician) initially activates sensory neurons which responds to various stimuli including noxious heat and hot ingredient of chilli peppers nad has been found indispensable for the development of burning pain and reflex hyperactivity associated with inflammation of peripheral tissues for some time followed by pain reduction.

You can do the following to get rid from skin irritation
- Rub Alcohol or Dish wash
- Rinse with vinegar
-Soak in Corn Starch

Kindly consult with a Physician for further management.

Hope to have been helpful.

Kind Regards
Dr. Navneet Bansal
