Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Redness And Swelling In The Right Foot While On Keflex And Mupirocin?
I have been treated for years for fungus infection in toes with ciclopirox olamine. Starting 5/2/17 a redness, swelling and infectious look has appeared on top of my right foot. On Friday, a family physician prescribed Keflex (500) and Mupirocin (2%) cream. Took 2 pills on Friday, 3 on Saturday, and have just taken 1 on Sunday morning. Condition seems unchanged so far since I started medication on Friday. What do you suggest? My email address is YYYY@YYYY .
Since you have been on Keflex for almost 2 days now, you must start to notice a decrease in redness and pain if the cellulitis (skin infection) is responding to treatment. Since you notice no decrease in symptoms while on Keflex, it indicates possible bacterial resistance. Blood culture and sensitivity testing and switching to an appropriate antibiotic is recommended at this point.
Please be advised to follow-up with your treating physician to undergo necessary evaluation and management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
