What Causes Redness And Swelling In Ear Along With Severe Pain ?

I have a question about ear infection. My ear hurts both inside and out . It is red and swollen on the outside and is causing a hearing problem. I HAVE BEEN OUTSIDE PLAYING GOLF RECENTLY AND DOING YARDWORK. I HAVE ALSO BEEN AT CAPE COD. DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE AN INSECT BITE?

Thank you for sharing your query on Healthcaremagic, I have carefully worked through your case and probably you have an infection process mostly in your outer ear, I don't think about a bug bite because you have compromised your ear canal too ( regularly the person feels the bug movement inside) the hearing problems is caused by inflammation of your inner structure, I recommend you take some OTC ( pain killer and anti-inflammatory pills) and avoid any water inside your ears, if after 48 hours the symptoms persist is probably you need a physical exam and antibiotics, I hope that my advice has been helpful, take care
