What Causes Redness And Swelling Around The Wound?
I cut my leg by falling on cement last Friday. It is red and very swollen around the wound. Just concerned that it is infected. I have been using Neosporin pain ointment and hydrogen peroxide every few hours. Is there something else I should do or be looking for? thank you
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Redness and swelling around the wound what you have noticed is due to inflammatory reaction following injury. Infection is said to occur when pus gets accumulated in the wound and this would usually cause pain along-with. Kindly do the following along with Neosporin ointment what you have been using in the following way. 1. Cleanse the wound with antiseptic solution Povidine-Iodine twice daily. 2. After drying, apply Neomycin ointment over the affected region as a thin layer. 3. Take Tablet.Ibuprofen twice a day after food for about 3 days. Keep the wound clean by proper local wound care and allow it to heal naturally. Gradually, you should be able to get better as the scab dries and falls off from the wound and be back to normal. Hope the information provided helps. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
