What Causes Redness And Cracks On Shin After A Injury?
Hi, I had a football injury about 5 weeks ago. It was a bang to my shin bone and like I said after 5 weeks it is still red and hot and very tender to touch and the skin is starting to crack around the area.I went to A&E after a week and they x-rayed it and said there was no break and to rest. I m still concerned. Can you please advise on what actions to take? Thanks James.
There is a possibility that due to injury there might be bacterial invasion leading to cellulitis. It appears as red and swollen area that is tender to touch with increased temperature of the area or in simple terms the area appears Hot. First of all, you need to get evaluated as the area looks infected, accordingly it can be managed.
In case if it looks like there is infection leading to Cellulitis, you can be advised a course of antibiotics to reduce infection. Along with it anti-inflammatory painkillers can be advised to reduce redness, tenderness and heat in the area.
You can also put pillows when lying down so that the leg is elevated above the chest and help in reducing swelling and pain faster. Doing warm compresses using a wash cloth dipped in warm to hot water can help. Also avoid exerting a lot and avoid any strenuous activity.
