What Causes Red Rash Under Lower Lip?

My six year old son has a red rash under his bottom lip just above the chin. It is not raised or bumpy. And it looked like he had eaten a red Popsicle. He kept using his tongue or upper lip to wet the area, almost as if he has chapped lips.. But this is below his lower lip. Thanks for your help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red rash under lower lip is mainly due to allergic reaction. It can lead to perioral dermatitis as well. I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin) for a week. Apply topical erythromycin based ointment. For now you can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling , keep it clean and do not touch it with hands. You should immediately stop using all kinds of creams and cosmetics as well as steroid ointment. Wash face with lukewarm water. Drink plenty of water.
