Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello,After eating a pomegranate last night, I noticed red liquid at the bottom of the toilet bowl after a bowel movement. Could this be due to the fruit, or should I see a physician?I should note that there is a history of colon cancer in my family - my father was diagnosed with stage 4 at 50 and died of it. I am 30 years old and do not know whether there is Lynch Syndrome in my family.Thank you!
Blood in stool or red liquid stools could be due to piles, fissures,or some dieatry factors etc.
Here, it could be possible that pomegranate might have caused your red coloured liquids stools but to be in safer side I would recommended some tests.
First you need to be examined around anus and per rectum by doctor to rule out above possibilities if you had any clinical symptoms otherwise nothing to worry.
Your father died due to colon cancer does not necessarily mean that will also suffer from that.
You can go for stool routine micro examination but no need to worry if your red stool gets subsided automatically.
Consult your family physician for further advice.
