What Causes Red Itchy Spots On Ankles In Spite Of Using Hydrocortisone?

For months I have had red itchy spots around both my ankles. Only along sock line. Not on feet or legs just on ankles. They itch more at night. They don t seem to go away despite hydrocortisone cream and neosporin. What could they be? I don t have bumps:itchy spots anywhere else and I imagine poison ivy would have healed by now and there is no pus.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red itchy spots on ankles in spite of using Hydrocortisone. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like dermatitis, dry skin, eczema, heat rash or sweat dermatitis or uncomfortable footwear . Sometimes hydrocortisone can also exeggrate the condition .It is important to wear lose comfortable footwear and socks ,maintain good personal hygiene. Use a powder to avoid sweat collection and apply calamine lotion at the sites of the lesion. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like clindamycin , oral anti fungal or anti bacterial depending upon the diagnosis .
