Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Bumps On Knee After Cleaning Scar Tissue?
I had a total knee replacement 15 months ago. Last Friday (9 days ago) my surgeon went in to clean out some calcification and scar tissue. The stitches are due to come out tomorrow and I have been wearing the ace bandage to protect and avoid irritation of the area. I just took it off and the bruising that was there on Thursday when I saw the surgeon for follow up has now expanded to new areas and I now have large red bumps all over my knee. Should I be concerned enough to go to the ER or can it wait until tomorrow. I should add these bumps were not there when I showered at noon.

As per your explanation I believe it is due to inflammation in joint, so I suggest to use hot and cold pack alternatively. And see how you feel. But if you start having pain with range stiffness and swelling on knee or say itching in stich area as well surrounding skin. I suggest to visit your doctor because you may need to do a course of anti allergic, anti inflammatory as well anti biotic to to avoid infection as well reduce allergy and inflammation. Hope this was useful for you. Take care.
