What Causes Red And Sore Penis After Having Non Penetrative Sex?

Hello. what does it mean if the tip of my penis is red and sore ? Because my wife was on her period instead of having intercourse I rubbed myself against her and now I m afraid that maybe I might have an infection of some kind? Or is it just from the friction ? Is it okay to apply sudocrem ? Many thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Based on the facts that you have posted here, the redness or soreness is likely to be due to infection of glans penis (balanitis or balanoposthitis).

Gently retract the foreskin and soak in warm water to clean penis and foreskin. Avoid using soaps as they may irritate the skin and make the inflammation worse. Take broad spectrum antibiotics small course like cefixime 200 mg and topical antibiotic with steroid ointment like Betamethasone and Neosporin (Betnovate-N) for local application over glans.

But for oral antibiotic, you need to consult some local doctor or your family physician, who will better know about it.

I expect that you will start improving with 4 to 5 ointment applications and in case, if redness persists even after 1 week of treatment, you should consult a dermatologist and get examined. You may need some tests to determine the cause of the infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sandip Kabra
