What Causes Recurring Redness, Warmth And Tenderness Around Zygomatic Bone?
My 12 yr old daughter has had intermittent redness, warmth (so much that you can hold your hand close and feel it without actually touching it), and tenderness upon palpation (very little pain with chewing/movement) over the zygomatic bone for about 2 months. This may have begun after she ran into our dog with the hover board and they butted heads, but we aren t certain. From what I can tell, the pain is In the exact area that temporal mandibular syndrome occurs. There is no clicking of the jaw or pain at the TMJ. She has had a couple of instances where her vision got blurry (she describes it as what I would associate with an aura seen with migraine) and got dizzy with a headache at the same time. This could be unrelated. But it s happened in the same time frame as she hit the dog and has this wierd phenomenon with her cheek. Pediatrician has dismissed us twice (she isn t exhibiting symptoms when we go) and the orthodontist says it s not related to his area of expertise. This happens quite often. Many times a day. Any ideas?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of recurring redness, warmth and tenderness around zygomatic bone which can occur due to soft tissue injury leading to rupture of blood vessels and loss of subcutaneous fat. It could be due to impingement of nerve supplying facial area i.e 7th cranial nerve.
Need not to worry. You should apply warm compresses to affected area and consult oral physician and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and get evaluated and a proper examination and investigations like panoramic x-rays can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. For soft tissue injury you should start taking anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and start doing cool compresses.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
