Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recurring pain on my left foot ... suspect metatarsalgia. Have had similar on right foot, but not nearly as often. I suspect left is worse and more frequent because I probably rely on it more (had secondary reconstruction surgery on right ankle about 3-4 years ago, and at times it becomes aggravated). I am about 40 lbs over weight. I am considering compression socks to see if they will help reduce or eliminate my pain. Some socks cover full foot, some leave the toes open; I m wondering which is likely to be better for me?
I understand your concern. I would recommend the following measurements:
- Rest. Protect your foot from further injury by not stressing it.
- Ice the affected area.
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Ibuprofen three times a day.
- Wear proper shoes that does not trigger the pain.
- Use metatarsal pads and consider arch supports.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
General & Family Physician
