What Causes Recurring Pain In Abdomen That Radiates From Upper Abdomen To Back?

I am a heavy beer drinker, type 2 diabetic, triglycerides around 900. Two weeks ago had SEVERE pain that started in my upper abdomen, within 30 minutes it radiated into my back and had to go to the ER. Blood work and CT scan were performed. The ER doctor felt it was pancreatitis. Two days ago I went to another ER with the same symptoms. An ultrasound and blood work were performed again - in both cases the blood work results did not show an elevation in digestive enzymes. During the second ER visit the doctor gave me a GI cocktail (after the morphine began to wear off) which I believe contains lidocaine. The abdominal pain got better - This ER doctor believes it may not be pancreatitis but gastritis and recommended an endoscopy. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks
