What Causes Recurring Itchy Rashes Along With Swelling Around The Mouth?

I have a friend, who for the past few days has been getting and itchy rash (almost looks like hives, has a scratchy throat (voice a little deeper) and has had her lips and around her mouth swell up twice now. She has been taking Benadryl and Tagament. She hasn’t eaten any new foods, used any new beauty products, or lotions. She has also been feeling very anxious and jittery. She just came back from the quick care in the town we live in and they did some blood work, which came back ok. They told her that her blood pressure was high, 98/178, which is not usual for her. She doesn’t know if the blood pressure is and the jittery feeling is from the Benadryl she has been taking or if something else is going on. They told her to keep taking the Benadryl and if it gets worse she can come back. Any ideas?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of hives and rashes around the mouth along with swelling of the lips seems to be due to allergic reaction only and the most common cause of it seems to be due to some food or medication, skin cosmetics etc..
Increase in blood pressure also seems to be due to anxiety and the symptoms that she is facing..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the allergen and once you know the cause of the allergic reaction you can avid exposure to it to prevent allergy attack..
She should continue taking benadryl as advised by the physician and can do cool compresses over the lips and the effected area..
Apply calamine lotion..
Wash your face with cold water..
Take a nutritious diet and sufficient rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
