What Causes Recurring Headache Post Mild Head Injury?

I tripped on my steps and hit/cut the upper rear left/center of my head on the stair railing on Saturday night. The wound bled a lot at first but stopped after a few minutes. Because the wound stopped bleeding and I was not having any other symptoms, I didn t go to the ER. It is now Wednesday and I have had a very mild headache off and on since Monday. Tylenol relieves the pain but the headache has still been coming and going for the past three days (the headache often goes away without Tylenol, only to return a few hours later or the next day). The headache feels typical of a normal nagging headache - it s not disruptive and it isn t concentrated in one spot. I am not experiencing any other symptoms. My pupils are the same size and dilating correctly. I have not, at any point, had a fever. The site of the cut is a bit bruised, and there is swelling around the cut. At first the bump on the cut was a bit numb on the surface, but it is steadily regaining feeling. Should I be worried that I injured myself worse than I thought at first? At what point (3 days, 7 days, a month?) can I be sure that I didn t sustain an injury much more serious than just a cut and a bump? How long do symptoms of a serious brain injury/hemorrhaging take to show up? Thanks for your help.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Headache after trauma to head should be investigated with CT scan. At time injury to brain shows up late. Thus, I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare worker for clinical assessment and CT scan of head.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
