What Causes Recurring Cramps, Nausea And Bloating During Ovulation?

Hi I ve had menstrual like cramping everyday for over six months, my GP said not to worry about it unless I have excessive bleeding and didn t run any tests but I am worried about it. I also bloat for almost 2 weeks every month and I m currently ovulating and having really strong cramps and I m nauseous. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Understand your concern.
Pain during ovulation generally occur in girls.
It is due to egg that released during ovulation, along with it blood and fluid also released in some cases that irritate abdominal wall and lead to abdominal pain.
It is generally mild and for 1-3 days without stabbing.

But if it is severe, stabbing and associated with nausea, it is need concern.
Following are the cause of it
1. Cyst in ovary
2. Endometriosis
3. Adshesion from prior surgery like appendectomy that produce scar tissue and produce pain during ovulation
4. STDs: most commonly chlamydia, which produce inflammation in Fallopian tube and hydrosalphynx.

So I think you should consult gynecologist as your pain is chronic and associated with nausea.
Do the following test
1. Pelvic examination
2. USG and Xray to exclude pelvic inflammatory disease
3. PCR and Nucleic acid amplification test

Following treatment currently will help you.
1. Tablet meftal spas orally two times a day for cramps
2. Tablet ondansetrone 4 mg two times a day
3.Apply heating pad over abdomen
4. Warm bath help in relieving pain.

Hope this may help you
Wish you good health
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
