What Causes Recurrent Swelling Of Tonsils?

Hi Doctor, My tonsils are swollen and I have trouble swallowing larger foods and I find that it is harder to breath. I've noticed that my tonsils swell and recede often and I was wondering if I should get them removed? I also researched tonsil stones which I believe I have. FYI, my tonsils are the size of large grapes.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from recurring infection and inflammation of tonsils leading to Tonsillitis and in case if you have Tonsil stones it is one of the most common cause for Tonsil inflammation and bad breath..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a clinical examination and investigations like throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of tonsil stones he can manually remove the stones with fine tweezers and also advise you to take antibiotics and Anti-inflammatory painkiller like Motrin in case if there is still infection present..
You can also be advised to gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, do warm saline gargles and also limit intake of dairy to reduce stone formation..
In case if still the condition does not improve Tonsillectomy that is surgical removal of tonsils can be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
