What Causes Recurrent Seroma Formation Over The Scraped Knee?

Two seroma's formed over recent knee scrape, that has scared over nicely all three times in short healing period. DR wants to do untrasound to test for debris left under the skin, I think its not necessary as wound has healed fine each time, then 6 weeks later seroma formed. Seroma formed twice and has now healed twice, count three times when including original scrape on knee. Why has a seroma formed twice when wound healing appears healthy each time. I have never had this before, and no trauma to scar area after new scars form, the seromas just appear out of the blue. I have celiac disorder and poor wound healing is described as symptom... Help me!!

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. A chronic seroma [three times] will definitely need an operative intervention, so check with your attending physician or surgeon who will order an ultrasound of knee to see whether the seroma is encapsulated or not [since management varies] and also to know the extent of seroma.

PS. as they have healed within a short time so can't be infected [unless proved otherwise] but with regular removal [aspiration or else] chances of infection at the site increases along with calcification of the seroma capsule.

2. Remember that seromas resolves slowly and are often refractory with prolonged drainage, multiple aspirations [so it could be the case with you]

3. Recently Lymphatic mapping is been done and found useful in the treatment of chronic seromas and recurrent fluid collection and take Zinc and Vit. C supplements as they help in healing.
PS. check with your Hb%, blood sugar level is poor wound healing is there]
