Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When I was a child I had a low grade fever. I eventually went to a urologist. I had to have a surgery they said to reroute my tubes from my kidney to my bladder because my urine was backing back up into my kidneys. My mother doesn t remember what they said was wrong with me or what the name of the procedure was. I was wanting to know what the name of what it could ve been and the name of the procedure.
The anatomical pattern is that the urine flows from each kidney through two tubes called ureters and then into the bladder. When the bladder is full, it squeezes and sends the signal to brain and then send the urine out through the urethra.
No urine flows back into the ureter when the bladder is squeezing. As each ureter has a one-way valve from which the urine enters the bladder that prevents urine from flowing back up the ureter.
But in some cases, urine flows back up to the kidney. This is called vesicoureteral reflux.
Reflux can occur in people whose whose valves do not work well or ureters do not attach properly to the bladder.
Over time, the kidneys may be damaged or scarred by this reflux if not treated in time . This is called Reflux Nephropathy.
I hope this information solves your query
