What Causes Recurrent Dizziness Followed By Loss Of Consciousness?

Son 16 1/2 years old. Been having dizzy spells, passed out once. Says the dizzy spell comes on, then everything gets bright, then he says he feels like he is going to pass out. He eats good, does not do drugs, does not drink. He is not allergic to anything. Check his blood sugar last night after he got dizzy, bright lights and then felt fine and it was 118. Any idea what this could be or should I take him to the doctor an have them run tests.

Hi,

Because he has had repeated episodes of loosing consciousness it is good to have a check with the doctor and have some examinations done to rule out problems with the brain and the heart and very rarely issues with electrolytes , drug use and other abnormal blood tests.

The most common cause of feeling dizzy and faint is vasovagal syndrome which is not dangerous and has no serious cause (mostly triggered by stress or long standing periods) but it is safer to rule out other conditions mentioned above first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
