Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Dizziness And Headache While On Metformin For Diabetes?
67 year old male with low blood pressure( 89/60-117/72) with 2 week history of dizziness, headache. Patient has two cardiac stents and takes Plavix and Avapro as well as Metormin for diabetes- blood sugar currently runs 140-165 fasting. Dizzines is incapacitating most of the day. Physical exam by NP shows no ear infection and CBC is normal.
Recurrent dizziness with headache are part of side effect profile of Metformin consumed for diabetes control as there may be pharmaco-kinetic alteration at drug levels with simultaneous intake of blood thinner medications.
Intermittent hypoglycemia can be also a major contributing factor to be considered for the same, which can be possible with normal blood sugar levels.
I would recommend discussion with your treating physician to titrate the dosage or change the molecule accordingly, rather than suffering form daily headache and dizziness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
