Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. recent controlled experiments/laboratory studies have suggested that although initially azithromycin causes efficient inhibition of chlamydia infection BUT prolonged treatment did not have a clear elimination of chlamydia from host cells i.e. [Chlamydia were temporarily arrested in a persistent state]

2. Since complication of untreated infection in men include epididymitis and epididymo-orchitis, urethral stricture [thus could explain the symptoms of pain in testicles/penis]

3. As Gonorrhea infection often co exist thus has to be excluded, and also screen for other STIs like HIV/Hepatitis B, so it is wise to consult an Urologist for examination and VDRL investigation

4. nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), currently the most sensitive and specific method of testing for chlamydia.

5. If Azithromycin is not giving desired results your Doctor may substitute it with Doxycycline/ofloxacin/erythromycin.

6. Make sure to treat your female partner at the same time.
