What Causes Recurrent Bumps On Body, Face And Scalp Despite Using Synthroid?

This is a long one...for the past year and a half my body seems to be going through something. About a year and a half ago I started breaking out with bumps, went to the derm she said I had Rosacea, when I realized I started taking synthroid instead of levo I stopped and bumps went away. This past oct I broke out with shingles. That cleared up with meds and in February I started getting bumps again little red ones on my face and scalp. Derm said it was probably due to oil glands some type fungus.it keeps coming back. Seems to get worse when I am more active. Something I am concerned about is my sister was diagnosed with CVID, a immune deficiency and wonder if I may have this. Not many doctors are not up to date with the condition. I am 56 female. I have hypothyroidism since around 2000.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurrent bumps on body, face and scalp despite using Synthroid . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction, contact dermatitis , eczema , psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis . The sympoms can also occur as side effects of hormonal therapy ( Synthroid) as in your case , so also discuss it with doctor .

I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to rashes. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy food. You should take benadryl twice a day and avoid dry environment. You should consult allergy specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order allergy test , blood test for IgE antibodies and physical examination .

Avoid direct sun exposure .Doctor may prescribe anti allergic medicine , corticosteroid ointment and anti inflammatory. Doctor may also recommend you to eat gluten free food if your problem is related with gluten allergy.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
