What Causes Raw Irritated Patches On Gums, Palate And Frenulum Of Tongue?

Hi there. My mouth, specifically my gums near my molars, roof of my mouth (toward the back) & under my tongue have been raw and irritated for about a week now. I noticed it first during a mild cold that I had -my mouth started feeling strange toward the end, and seemed to follow a painful canker sore on the roof of my mouth. As my cold cleared up, my mouth started to get better and by Monday I felt almost 100%. Monday evening, my whole mouth started to tingle, including the back of my throat. The rawness returned and has been getting worse since. Now when I swallow, it feels like something is stuck at the top of my throat. It isn't terrible, there are no visible signs, but it hurts to eat, brush my teeth, etc. Has not affected my voice at all and I don't have a typical "sore" throat. I am curious if allergies could cause this, as we have cotton flying around and our pollen is high?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from STOMATITIS which is the inflammation of mucous membranes of the mouth..
It can involve any region like tongue, inner lips, gums, roof of mouth, inner cheeks etc..

It can occur due to a number of reasons like Nutritional deficiency, chemical burns, heat burns, denture wearing, certain medications, radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a pat of cancer treatment, dryness of mouth, chewing tobacco etc..

The treatment is based on relieving the symptoms..

You can take advil or tylenol in case of pain..
Avoid hot and spicy food.
Gargle using cool water..
Salt water gargles can also help..
Sucking ice pops can provide relief..
Apply numbing gels over the raw area like oragel for relief..
Maintain a good oral hygiene..
Use an ultra soft brush to brush your teeth..
You can apply steroid based dental cream over the raw areas to reduce inflammation..

Hope this information helps..
