What Causes Rashes On Top Of Penis?

my husband has a rash in three places on the top of his penis. he states that it is from my hair stubble when? shaving. But if that is the case wouldn t that affect the shaft more so than only the tip. I am concerned but also confused. I shave daily and have for a year, why now would this be an issue and only the top of penis. It looks as if it is chapped. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Based on your description, it sounds like your husband may have developed contact dermatitis on the glans (head) of his penis. Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin caused by direct contact with an irritating substance. In this case, it seems the irritation may be from your pubic hair stubble rubbing against the sensitive skin of the glans during intercourse or other sexual activity.

Even though you have been shaving for a while, the skin on the glans penis is very delicate and sensitive, and repeated friction from stubble can eventually lead to an allergic reaction and rash. The fact that it's localized to the glans and not the penile shaft also points to contact with stubble as a likely cause. Some things to try:
1. Avoid any sexual activity that involves contact between your stubble and the glans until the rash clears up. This will prevent further irritation and allow the skin to heal.
2. Apply a low-potency cortisone cream to the rash 3-4 times a day to help with inflammation and itching. This can help speed up healing.
3. Moisturize the glans regularly with a fragrance-free cream or ointment like petroleum jelly or aloe vera gel. This will soothe the skin and create a protective barrier.
4. Consider shaving less frequently or trying hair removal creams to allow more hair regrowth before the next shave. This can make stubble softer and less irritating.
5. See your doctor if the rash does not start to clear up in 3-5 days or gets worse. Oral medication or other treatments may be needed in some cases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
