What Causes Rashes On The Body And Redness On The Tongue?

My 89 year old mom is in the hospital. She has a rash over her body, her tongue is red, talking to her she seems OK, but she is seeing things that aren t there. About a week ago she had a fever around 103 and after a couple of days went to the hospital for test. They concluded UTI and gave her antibiotics. She did to take these well. She took them for 4 days (up to last night, Saturday). Because she was not getting better, she check herself into the hospital last night. Test were given and UTI was ruled out. Doctor thinks it is a virus and her body is trying to fight it. Could it be something like West Nile

As per your complain it seems that rash over her body and redness of her tongue seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction to any unknown allergen while can also be due to viral infection..

If there is associated fever then it can be due to viral infection..

I would suggest you to consult a Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood test to rule out the cause of the symptoms and treatment can be done accordingly..
She can take Levocetrizine for relieving rashes after consulting a local physician..
As of now you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve the symptoms.
You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Suck ice and do cool water rinses..
Avoid spicy food..
