What Causes Rashes On Pubic Area Post Shaving?

Hey Doc, So I shaved my pubic area about 2 weeks ago with (what I later found out to be) a razor with no guard and rust on it. After I shaved I woke up and there was a rash everywhere where I shaved. Now my rash has subsided for the most part but there is still irritation. My shaft is a little red, even my foreskin is as well, but it isn t itchy. On the other hand my testicle sack is very itchy and red. Yes, I have been sexually active but the only girl that i have engaged in sexual intercourse with got tested for an std a week ago and was negative for anything. Any ideas of what I have and how I can treat this problem? Thanks

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I don't think your symptoms are related to an STD. The condition is most likely a resolving razor burn, with some irritation and redness still persisting.
I suggest you to use a moisturizing cream preferably mixed with an OTC topical steroid e.g cortisone (in a ratio of 1:1), twice daily for a few days.
An OTC oral antihistamine e,g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
If the condition does not resolve as expected you may get it reviewed wby a dermatologist
