What Causes Rapid Weight Loss When Diagnosed With G6PD Deficiency?

My husband is 67 years old. He stands 5'6 and used to weight 160 lbs. Now h is down to 126 lbs. He was diagnosed with Q6PD last April this year. According to his doctor, this sickness is genetic. I am worried because of the rapid decrease of his weight. I always see to it that his meal is iron rich food. But still, the weight kept on decreasing. What FOOD will make him increase his weight?
Will appreciate your answer. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Of course the G6PD is genetically constituted disease but it self it can not cause the weight loss, if this is the history of weight loss then there must be something else which may needed clinical examination and investigation, unless know the cause of not putting on weight giving any food for weight gaining purpose would be useless, let advise you that 160 ibs in age of 67 is not under weight and it is nothing to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain Shaikh
