What Causes Rapid Weight Gain While Taking Metformin And Lantus?

I am 68 yrs. old and have had fibroids for 20+ years. After menapause they were shrinking. I am also diabetic and needed minor surgery, but until I had my sugar under control they wouldn t operate. I was prescribed 1000 units of metformin twice daily and 20 units of landus solostar daily. I noticed a rapid weight gain in my belly area. I was also bleeding about a tablespoon daily. I went to have surgery to remove my uterus, ovaries and tubes. In the 8 months or so of taking sugar meds, my fibroids were huge, from my pevic area to my breast bone. Is this a common side effect of landas?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Lantus and metformin are not associated with weight gain .

Lantus is also not known to cause any changes to fibroids so it is not likely contributing to this problem either.

Persons can react to medication differently but lantus is not known to cause these issues.

I hope this helps
