What Causes Purple Discoloration On The Feet?

My wife s toes are turning purple but she has no pain in here feet , but just cold by feel, she s been to doctors for really bad pain in back and tailbone area for months ,walking for 20 minutes makes here left leg go numb and having trouble walking which makes her drag her foot to move,just went for EMG which came back inconclusive,next is a MRI on brain, she had Mir on back 2 years ago,multiple X-rays on back,back pain for 3-4 years,but this pain is tailbone area? Blue toe syndrome can be blocked arteries in the abdominal area no?which could be her issue, pain from block arteries in her abdominal area? What should she do?

Hi,

Yes, this kind of numbness and discoloration are commonly seen with arterial occlusion. It is commonly seen with the blockage in lower limb arteries, not abdominal arteries.

So in my opinion, you should take her for lower limb color Doppler study of arteries. This will tell you if the blockage is there or not. Another possibility is connective tissue disease (CTD). Some of the CTDs like Sjogren syndrome, SLE can cause such discoloration. So discuss CTD with her doctor.
