What Causes Pulsating Sensation Above The Ears?

Hi I have a fluttering/pulsating feeling about 2 above the top of my ear on my skull. This has been occurring for about a month but over the last week it has increased and the last 2 days many times per hour. The duration is about 10 seconds and then it just keeps returning. There doesn t seem to be any trigger and it happens upright and when laying flat. My history I have many spine and brain conditions: Arnold Chiari malformation type 1, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, tethered cord syndrome, tarlov cyst disease, cranial cervical instability & Atlanto axle instability, Arachnoiditis, CSF leaks along withother spine issues. My spinal canal is also too wide. I had my tethered cord released last July, skull to C2 fusion and Chiari decompression the end of Dec. 2016. I was told it will be an 18 month healing process from my skull fusion & decompression. During that time many weird sensations can occur but I never know when something may be serious and no local doctors understand my conditions. Any help is appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Considering the past history regarding the CNS issues, I recommend to undertake an MRI of the brain for the cause evaluation after consultation with a neurologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
