What Causes Pulsatile Tinnitus And Feeling Of Pressure In Head?

The last two nights I have heard my heartbeating in my right ear, but also feel the blood flowing through my brain. I am asleep for about an hour, I wake up to go to the bathroom, when I get back in bed this happens. Also during the last two days, my legs will feel like rubber. What could this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Feeling of pulsation in the ear can be due to the following reasons:
A condition called Glomus Jugulare tumor which is a dilated vessel and thus can cause pulsatile tinnitus.

Inflammation with fluid collection in the middle ear.
Raised blood pressure.
Some preexisting condition like AV fistula and so on.

This is indeed a serious symptom hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
ENT Endoscopy and consultation of an ENT surgeon.
MRI Angiography of the area like Mastoids and nearby brain.

Any other investigations as advised by your Doctors. The management necessarily depends upon the findings.

As for the feeling of rubbery in legs, the cause can be detected by clinical examination by your Doctor, investigated for diabetes and so on. Treatment again depends upon the condition found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
