What Causes Proteus Infection On The Leg?
my father was just told after a culture on his leg that he has proteus. I ve done some research on the web and haven t really found anything to help me better understand this diagnosis. What I have read says this is most commonly found in the GI or UTI which he has neither of.

Proteus mirabilis is part of the Enterobacteriaceae family. It mostly is known to cause urinary tract infections and gastrointestinal tract infections.
Proteus vulgaris is another organism, which is anaerobic, rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium in the Enterobacteriaceae family.
It causes urinary tract and wound infections. It can also be found free-living in water and soil.
When this organism enters the urinary tract, wounds, or the lungs it can become pathogenic. The main mode of transmission is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
In recent years, the resistance to many antibiotic classes for this organism has significantly increased. Hence, it needs to be treated with an appropriate course of antibiotics.
