What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding While On Microgestin?

Hi I have been on microgestin fe/120 for almost a month now however during my third week of active pills I began bleeding when I had 3 pills left in the pack. I bled a complete 7 days like my typical period but I m still bleeding on the seventh day. During normal periods it don t by the seventh day. I m 2 days Into a new pack . I skipped the placebo week , and I m stil bleeding on the 7th day. Is this a period ? Or breakthrough bleeding ? I m worried that this will not stop.

Hi, I think it can be a breakthrough bleeding. You may need some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. If it doesn't work, you may need a high dose of progesterone to stop the bleeding. Talk to your doctor regarding this. Also get a thyroid profile and prolactin level and a ultrasound done to see uterus and ovaries to find out if there is any other cause of heavy bleeding. Hope it helps.
