I have had my period for 10 days straight and still goimuch she can do.ng. Some parts of the day are heavy then slows down, then goes heavy again. I`m 45 not sure if this mean I`m going through menopause but I want to know how do I get this to finally stop? I have seen my doctor.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Periods are considered heavy or prolonged when a woman bleeds for more than 8 to 10 days, especially if this is repeated month after month. In the years close to the menopause, (45 years of age onwards) heavy periods are usually a sign of hormone imbalance. However, the following conditions are associated with heavy periods: fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, polyps of the lining of the womb. And the commonest cause is a condition called dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB). If you have noticed it for the 1st time, kindly wait and follow what happens in the next periods. If the same symptoms continue or you have some symptoms in addition, you would need a clinical evaluation for which you need to consult a Gynecologist. In the meantime, you can take iron and folic acid supplements after food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
