What Causes Prolonged Inter Menstrual Bleeding And Abdominal Bloating?

I am 51. I had a 26 day period a couple months ago after none for 8 months. My nurse practitioner checked my FSH and stated I was post menopausal. She did a transvaginal ultrasound, a biopsy and all was clear. She repeated the transvaginal ultrasound 2 months later, did a pap smears, and a vaginal exam. All clear. During this time, I began having trouble with high blood pressure and am now taking medication. I never had trouble with BP before. I feel heaviness in my lower abs, have had terrible back pain that comes and goes ( with an X-ray of the spine to make sure I had not hurt it in exercise), bloating, and sometimes constipation. I have always been slim until about a year ago and have gained about 20 pounds. My clothes no longer fit in the waist. Now, I am having another period. I was told that I should no longer be having periods. What is wrong with me? I feel like something is wrong but nothing is showing anything. I have never been to see a health practioner for anything more than a sinus infection other than child birth and a gall bladder removal when I was younger. Any suggestions?

Hi,

A certain degree of bloating is normal but in case of excessive bloating, it may be a sign of food allergy, hiatal hernia, IBS or inflammatory bowel diseases.

So you should do gastroenterology work up but first, try to change your dietary habits, it means: eat smaller meals but more frequently, avoid fried and spicy food, take menta tea, avoid alcohol and coffee, eat probiotics and milk products, boiled food and vegetables.

Also, there are medications such as Flobian, Magnesium oxide or certain Laxatives which may relieve such symptoms of this continue. If there is no improvement on these measures, you should consider doing diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy, anal sphincter manometry and food allergy testing.
