What Causes Pressure In Head, Partial Loss Of Hearing After Shunt Placement?
I have a shunt placed several months ago for normal pressure hydrcephalus. 5 days after surgery all of the sudden I experienced pressure in my head, partial loss of hearing, balance problems. I have continued to have these same symptoms daily. The shunt has been adjusted several times. What is the problem? Doctors say they have never heard of this.
Hi. Thanks for your query. This is very true, never heard of reduced hearing, pressure in head and balance problems after putting in the shunt in the brain. Well, since you are having this problems, we have to find the cause and get an appropriate treatment. First of all get a consultation of an ENT surgeon for clinical evaluation, MRI of the brain and the ears and to confirm or to rule out the Ear part as the cause of this problem. Anyways the Neurosurgeon would definitely looks onto the matter and see for the reasons. There is a chance of infection in the brains or cervical spondilitis being one of the reasons. Please discuss this with your Doctor.
