What Causes Pressure In Ear And Head With Occasional Intake Of Excedrin For Headache?

hi,i m 46, overweight (220lbs/5 8 ) and my diastolic pressure is 86-92, though systolic varies from 145 to 125, different machines used, so it is not a matter of calibration. Also sometimes i have a feeling in my ears as somebody is pushing them inside my head. I m generally healthy and do not take any meds except an occasional Excedrin for my headaches.thank you,Marina

Hello,

Maintain healthy weight, loose weight if obese. Manage stress, both physical and emotional. Avoid taking salty snacks, red meat & food that triggers blood pressure. Avoid constipation. If required take laxatives for a better bowel movement. Avoid taking Excedrin regularly, as taking this medicine for a longer duration of time may cause feeling of pressure in your ears, affect hearing or cause ringing in the ears.

People taking Excedrin for a very long duration of time suffer from side effects like tinnitus. You are advised to get your ears examined by an ENT, to rule out any infection or any other developing pathology in the ears. To manage headache, avoid stress and anxiety, do regular exercise. Avoid working for long hours on Laptop or PC. Take break between works.

Give yourself adequate sleep and wear dark glasses when outdoors to avoid glare of the sunlight. Prefer staying in AC room & stay away from pollution, noise pollution, strong lights, strong smell as these factors trigger headache. Stay adequately hydrated, dehydration and lack of food in proper time also causes headache. Get a CT / MRI done to rule out any tumor or trauma in your head that may be causing you headache.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
