What Causes Pregnancy-related Symptoms With Negative Pregnancy Test?

For the last 2 cycles my period has been light and only lasts 2 days. Not only that but I ve also had cravings for super greasy food which I use to rarely eat. It seems like I can smell everything even if it s far, and certain smell make me nauseous. The thing is i took a pregnancy test before my first unusual cycle but it came out negative. So I don t understand what s happening to me.

Hello,

Taking a pregnancy test 1 week after a missed or unusual period is fairly accurate. It would be reasonable to follow up with another pregnancy test if you are at risk of pregnancy.

The most typical early pregnancy symptom is fatigue and breast tenderness, although these can come with altered levels of hormones from a cycle where you don't actually ovulate, which may be what is the cause of the light, short periods. Food aversions and cravings don't typically happen in the first couple of weeks but may start in after this.

Sometimes, particularly in younger women (teens, early 20s), often due to physical or emotional stress, ovulation is skipped for 1-3 cycles. When that happens the usual cycle of hormones is altered and periods can be early, late, lighter, heavier, and last for a shorter or longer amt. of time. Once ovulation resumes, your usual periods will typically follow 2 weeks later.

I recommend taking another pregnancy test. If it is negative, and you continue to have unusual cycles, consider going in to see your doctor. I don't know your age or medical history, so I can't say much beyond that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
